Inspired by rock paintings and presented in the style of African oral traditions, Hungu uses mixed-media and sand animation to tell the tale of a young son who must leave his mother’s side as she lies dying in the heat of the African desert sun. Her soul becomes the berimbau, a musical string instrument still used in Brazil today. KM
