50th ANNIVERSARY RESTORATION!

Alfred Hitchcock's most famous, financially successful and influential film holds a permanent place not only in film history but in cultural consciousness: endlessly invoked, imitated, parodied and appropriated, it remains perfectly, devilishly complete in its brilliantly symmetrical design. Desperate to fund a new life with her boyfriend, Marion Crane (Janet Leigh) steals $40,000 from her boss and flees cross-country, until she makes the fateful decision to take refuge in the isolated Bates Motel, run by a friendly but nervous young man named Norman (Anthony Perkins) and his dominating, unseen (but overheard) mother. When a memorable encounter in a shower suddenly, shockingly jerks the story in another direction, Marion's sister (Vera Miles), boyfriend (John Gavin) and a snooping private detective (Martin Balsam) become embroiled with the increasingly desperate Norman, propelling the film towards its unforgettable conclusion. Though its narrative surprises have long been common knowledge, Psycho's brilliance lies in the way that Hitchcock masterfully turns the banalities of everyday life into a source of both psychological insight and nail-biting suspense, evoking the madness that lies just beneath the seemingly placid surface of normality—as Norman says, "We all go a little mad sometimes."
