official description

Much imitated but never equaled, Robert Altman's kaleidoscopic panorama of pop culture, show business and politics was one of the key American films of the 1970s. Following twenty-four characters whose lives randomly or fatefully intersect over the course of a few days as the country music capital simultaneously hosts a star-studded music fest and a political rally for an unseen, George Wallace-like presidential hopeful, Nashville offers a bitingly satirical but sympathetic portrait of American strivers and survivors. Featuring a panoply of brilliant character actors—including Lily Tomlin, Keith Carradine, Henry Gibson, Michael Murphy, Barbara Harris, Ronee Blakely and Karen Black—whose improvisations (and songwriting) became an intrinsic part of the film's structure, Nashville is the highest realization of Altman's free-wheeling, improvisatory mastery.

Our screening of Nashville will be followed by a Q&A session with Michael Murphy, one of the screen's most respected character actors and a long-serving member of Robert Altman's unofficial stock company, along with his director on The Trotsky, rising Canadian talent Jacob Tierney.
