official description

Triumphantly bringing wuxia (a traditional Chinese genre focusing on the adventures of heroic martial artists) to the West, Ang Lee's swordplay epic won four Academy Awards® and became the highest-grossing foreign film ever released in North America. When a rebellious teenaged heroine (Zhang Ziyi) steals the legendary jade sword of martial arts master Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun Fat) from his warrior friend Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh), she sets off a breathlessly paced pursuit entailing magnificent chases over rooftops, air and water. With the wire-assisted stuntwork of master choreographer Yuen Woo Ping, Lee makes his scenes of combat both hard-hitting and lyrical, most memorably in a breathtaking sword ballet atop a thick bamboo forest.
